Do you happen to have some old crutches from a past unlucky incident? If so, there are other uses for these aging crutches besides their normal use. One example would be to turn them into a unique shelf.
To begin this process of making this shelf you will need two crutches. You may also alter the looks of these crutches for a better final result.
Next, you will need to arrange these crutches into a stand. To make things easier, its recommended to remove any rubber from the base of the crutches and then bind them together with a small hinge.
After the hinge is set into place as shown above, you can now start to visualize how your shelf will look. Think about now many shelves you would like along with now much space between each shelf. Also thing about how you would like this shelf to look. The picture below shows an example of the shelving and the spacing done between the two crutches.
Once you know how many shelves you’d like, you can begin to place them on the crutches. When placing these shelves I would recommend that you secure each one with wood screws to prevent the stand from spacing too far apart. A good way to do this would be to measure from the top down on each crutch to make sure that the shelves are level. You may also use a level if you have one to help with this. Once the shelves are screwed in tight it should look something like the above picture.
Everything should be set and solid now! You may begin placing items on the shelf and see how the shelf does.
If the shelf has trouble handling what you’re placing on it, you can make any modifications you see fit to correct the problem.
The shelf should be unique, so don’t forget that you can do whatever you want here. You may change the colors, the edges of the boards or even change the layout of the stand. This can be a great item to add some spice to a room or your backyard.
If you have any ideas on this shelf project or on any re-purposing, please let me know!

This is a good post I was just thinking what you could use as shelves. I don’t have any crutches, but this is a cool way to make shelves. If I ever have crutches I’ll be sure to make shelves from what I read here. cs5711

This is a great idea! I am always looking for shelves and bookcases to organize my stuff, but they aren’t always very cheap. There seems to be many crutches out there that are being sold very cheap or even given away so it would make a good option for people on a budget. I think the design is much more unique and interesting than regular shelves. cs5711

The shelf looks great, though unless they were nonfunctional I would rather keep the crutches just in case I or anyone happened to need them, as rare of a case that might be. Still, I could see a symbolic use by recycling it into a shelf that had plants on them, as the owner no longer needed the crutch and its new purpose is to support other life.
